May I ask what methods are used to determine the thiol sulfur content and total sulfur content in liquefied gas respectively? Is sulfur in total sulfur also included substances containing sulfur such as thioethers? ? Thank you~
Total sulfur is determined using SH/T 0222-1992, Method for Determining Total Sulfur Content in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (electrochemical method), and should include all sulfides present in the liquefied gas. For the determination of thiol sulfur content, there are currently no corresponding national ** or industry standards in China, but some foreign standards can be used as references: ASTMD-5504; high-performance chromatography can also be employed for this purpose.
Determining the total sulfur content in liquefied gas is relatively easier; methods such as combustion-ultraviolet fluorescence, chromatography (with FPD detector), and coulometric analysis can generally be used. To determine thiol sulfur, hydrogen sulfide in liquefied gas must first be removed; thereafter, it is absorbed using a special absorption device and measured by potentiometric titration, or analyzed using other analytical methods following the total sulfur approach. In fact, it has already become the analysis of sulfide forms in liquefied gas, including hydrogen sulfide, thiols, thioethers, etc.
