Do ordinary low-pressure storage tanks used in the Northeast need to be subjected to low-temperature shock testing? The normal operating temperature is around 120. The material of the main pressure-bearing components is Q345R. In accordance with GB150 standards, it does not meet the requirements regarding low-temperature impact tests. However, considering situations such as shutdown for maintenance or sudden changes in temperature, is it necessary to conduct low-temperature impact tests on these components?
Normal operation at 120 – doesn’t the device retain heat then? How can the body temperature stay the same when standing outside naked in the dead of winter compared to when standing outside wearing a cotton-padded jacket!

In accordance with the requirements of GB713-2008, Q345R can undergo impact tests at -20 degrees Celsius, and the acceptable value for the impact energy can be increased to 41J. We do this often, and it proves to be reliable over time. Fellow sailors might want to give it a try; the impact test value for Q345R material at -20 degrees is much higher than 41 J, so there’s no need to worry.
