Recently, a senior tank safety supervisor suddenly asked me if there were any tanks that used anti-static measuring tapes; as far as I know, there aren’t many such cases. I’d like to discuss this situation! ! ! !
Is it to add an electrostatic grounding clip to the oil gauge, and attach this clip to the tank’s electrostatic terminal during oil measurement?
Reply to 2# liping_0127: Yes, it basically involves adding an electrostatic clip, similar to the oil-water interface detectors widely used on ships. However, I’ve visited many oil depots so far and haven’t encountered any that use such a device!
We do have them; for safety reasons, we recommend that everyone use a fuel gauge with an electrostatic clip.

Actually, there’s no need for that; it’s sufficient to follow the operating procedures. The oil dipstick’s gauge strip must not leave the measurement groove and must stay in close contact with it!
I agree with the idea of going upstairs; oil tanks are all equipped with static electricity grounding. As long as one touches the static discharge device before climbing onto the tank, and ensures that the dipstick surface fits tightly against the measuring hole after climbing on, no static electricity will be generated

Oil gauges equipped with static electricity clamps are available for purchase, but their price is likely to be higher than that of ordinary ones. Someone upstairs said there’s no great need for them, but from a perspective of 100% safety, it’s still advisable to use them. After all, those who carry out measurement tasks may not always follow safety procedures strictly; violations can occur at any stage, from discharging static electricity to ensuring the gauge surface is in close contact with the vessel’s opening. Having a static electricity clamp provides an extra layer of protection. On chemical cargo ships with strict management rules, every such detail is taken very seriously
The ruler sometimes gets close together and at other times moves apart, which is even more dangerous. An electrostatic conductive wire is necessary.
