Regarding the purpose of sulfur injection into catalysts, there are three purposes I am aware of at present. One is to suppress activity; it is injected at startup to prevent excessive temperature rise caused by high activity, such as disproportionation. The second approach is to improve activity by injecting substances at the start of operation, which can rapidly adjust selectivity and enable the product to meet standards in a short time, such as in naphtha hydrogenation. The third is continuous injection, to protect the catalyst metal components, such as in reforming. -----I would like to ask why sulfur causes these three different effects, and are there any other effects as well?
