How should the amount of flocculant added to the black water from gasification be determined? How to determine the effect after adding it? What is the general turbidity removal rate?
It’s the current in the sedimentation tank; as for the specific water quality, it depends on the analysis results. Last time, in our company, the issue was insufficient dosage of the chemical, which caused sludge to accumulate on the inner walls of the sedimentation tank and block the inlet of the bottom flow pump; this led to a lot of hassle on site.

Correct, the concentration of flocculants is generally 1-3 ppm, and the turbidity level can be kept at <5 NTU
Floculants can be either cationic or anionic. The choice between them depends on the quality of water in the system; as for the amount to be used, it is generally determined based on the volume of water circulating in the system. If the right type of floculant is selected, the dosage is usually 1 PPM of the volume of water circulating in the system. In our facility, the dosage is 2 PPM. Of course, this amount is not fixed – it needs to be adjusted accordingly based on the water quality, the volume of water in circulation, and the operating conditions of the system.
Flocculants are generally determined based on the suspended solids level; when the level is around 25 mg/L, more flocculant is added to increase the dosage, while if it’s lower, the dosage is reduced. Additionally, suspended solids also affect the effectiveness of dispersants
It’s all based on experience, right? Is there any expert who can provide a specific calculation method?
