Following approval by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ningxia Shasuo coal indirect liquefaction project has recently been established in the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base. This is the only collaboration project in the world between the global leader in coal indirect liquefaction, Shaso, and Ningxia. This project makes use of the coal resources in the Ningdong area, employs Sasol’s patented catalysts and low-temperature slurry bed technology, and introduces advanced foreign technologies for the production of synthetic oil. It is a **demonstration project for indirect coal liquefaction** that meets the requirements of relevant industrial policies, the overall development plan for the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base, as well as those related to clean production. Upon completion, the project will produce 3.1659 million tons of diesel, 655,500 tons of naphtha, 24,200 tons of liquefied petroleum gas, and 167,600 tons of sulfur as a by-product annually. At the same time, ash storage areas, evaporation ponds, accident ponds, and hazardous waste landfills will be constructed, with a total investment of over 50 billion yuan.
The environmental approval has been granted; has the NDRC given its approval?
Domestic technologies are already available; why use Saso’s technology then? Spend that much money?
Isn’t the space furnace working well? I don’t agree with the need to introduce foreign technology for indirect liquefaction at this time
What comes out of the space furnace is only syngas; it seems to make no difference whether indirect liquefaction is used or not, nor which technology is employed

For general projects, it is necessary to obtain approval from the Development and Reform Commission first, that is, to have the project approved prior to starting work on it. It seems to have been **approved long ago, and it is currently the only large-scale industrially implemented project for coal indirect liquefaction. After that, environmental impact assessments, health impact assessments, project approval procedures, and the like are carried out.
