Our company ordered a batch of conical end caps from a manufacturer. Since it was required that the diameter at the smaller end be less than DN100, the manufacturer welded together a small cone and a large cone. Is this acceptable? Are there any standards regarding this?
The standards don’t impose such a requirement; in other words, if there are ring seams in your cone, and the design drawings do not specify that ring-seam welding is prohibited, then it’s up to the manufacturer to decide which manufacturing process to use. Having ring seams in the cone section is certainly not ideal, as gravity further damages those ring seams.
This is basically how it’s done; for cones with a small end diameter of less than 100, creating them as a single unit presents certain difficulties in riveting operations, but it’s possible to do so if necessary
Can a conical head be formed from a single sheet of metal? I think it requires two sheets that are manufactured separately and then joined together
Of course, conical end caps can also be assembled, and they need not be of uniform thickness. It mainly depends on the specifications
When the minor diameter is less than 100, a rolling machine is definitely not suitable for use; such end caps are made in the form of hem sections, formed by bending, and then assembled and welded together; If the generatrix of the cone is long, an additional ring weld is usually added; the larger end is rolled using a rolling machine while the smaller end is bent. This makes the process very convenient. Ring weld inspection is carried out in exactly this way in practice, and there are no issues at all
