Chen Hong* states in his book \"Chemical Separation\" that the solvent composition in the extractive distillation reboiler is much higher than that of the solvent on the bottom plate, that is, there is a sharp increase. Is this also the case in actual production? It seems like his derivation over there isn’t quite correct. From another perspective, if the extractant is considered a poorly volatile component, then extractive distillation is essentially similar to ordinary distillation, and ordinary distillation does not experience any surge phenomena. How is the theoretical derivation for leapfrogging carried out?
It might be due to the subsequent separation, or perhaps it’s the mutual influence between the volatilities of the components!
Extraction is the process of adding a third component to two components in order to separate one of them.
