Coal with a low degree of coalification generally refers to coal with a low carbon content, high oxygen content, high volatile matter content, and a relatively low calorific value on an ash-free basis; examples include lignite, bituminous coal with a long flame length, and low-caking coal, as well as other younger types of bituminous coal. Coal with a low degree of coalification has the following characteristics: 1. It has a high oxygen content, high chemical reactivity, and is prone to reacting with organic solvents and certain oxidizing agents ; 2. It has a high internal porosity, meaning it possesses a large internal surface area and strong physical adsorption capacity ; 3. High water content, not suitable for long-distance transportation ; 4. Due to regional differences in coal distribution, lignite in some areas can be upgraded through low-temperature retorting locally, yielding a portion of pyrogenic gas and low-temperature coal tar; after dehydration and purification, chemicals such as aromatic compounds, phenols, anthracenes, and phenanthrenes can be extracted from this coal tar ; Hydrogenation can also be used to produce high-quality fuel oil); the semi-coke, which has good reactivity, low moisture content, and high calorific value, can be transported for use as a raw material in gasification processes, thereby improving resource utilization, reducing transportation costs, and lowering the cost of the final products.
