One of our centrifugal pumps was operating with excessive current. It was found that the pressure at the outlet was 1.6 MPa, while the pressure at the nozzle was 1.1 MPa; the high pressure difference caused the pump to operate under overload, which in turn led to high current consumption. Could everyone discuss it? If that’s the reason, then how should we modify the impeller of our pump?
1. Design issues with the pump itself. 2. The pump’s outlet is too large, resulting in a flow rate that exceeds the specified value. 3. Check whether there are any abnormalities in the transmission mechanism. 4. Inspect the motor to rule out any problems with it
To be honest, I don’t understand what you mean. The nozzle you’re referring to must be at the pipe end; it’s probably the resistance of the pipe that causes an excessive pressure drop. How could that cause your pump to experience overcurrent? Does your pump draw excessive current right after it’s purchased? If it is, then it’s definitely due to design issues; if not, it could be that the outlet opening is too large, or the fluid density is high, there are problems with the motor selection, or there might be a fault with the motor itself or the pump. According to you, it shouldn’t be a mechanical fault
Is it possible to manually rotate the shaft before starting? Is the outlet pressure within the designed range? Are there no issues? It’s a newly purchased pump – make sure the motor has sufficient capacity!
We reduced the size of the pump’s impeller, and the problem was solved; the current level decreased
