It is not necessary, as qualified instrument air is free of water, oil, and other impurities; even trace amounts of such impurities do not require heating.

In principle, it’s not necessary, but in practice I have encountered it. In the north, due to the dry air, many systems do not have air purification units (used to remove water and oil); high temperatures usually do not cause any problems, but in reality, there is still a small amount of water present in the instrument air. When winter arrives and temperatures drop significantly, small ice particles can still form, which block some of the air passages in the valve, preventing it from functioning properly! That’s when heat tracing is needed!
