For the valves used in the projects being worked on now, the nominal pressure is required to be expressed in pounds, i.e., Lb. For example, a stainless steel globe valve is denoted as J41H-150LbH; or should the letter code H, which indicates the valve body material, be omitted? Is it okay to use A41H-300Lb for safety valves, D341H-150Lb for butterfly valves, and Z41H-300Lb for gate valves? Also, are ASME B16.5 and ANSI B16.5 the same standard?
This representation is perfectly fine, but you need to prepare a valve data sheet; ANSI B16.5 and ASME B16.5 are basically the same. ASME cites this ANSI standard; in practice, ASME B16.5 is commonly used. ANSI is an American standard, while ASME is a standard established by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (an industry standard). Since this standard is based on the standards set by the engineers’ association, it is actually the same standard, just with different origins and varying notation. ANSI B16.5 is a **standard**, while ASME B16.5 is an industry standard; generally, **standards** originate from industry standards, and their content is the same. Sometimes it is simply written as ASNSI/ASME 16.5.
