In the alkali scrubbing tower of an ethylene plant, there are three stages of alkali scrubbing. The liquid at the bottom of the tower is pumped to the weak-alkali stage for circulation; an overflow plate is used to direct the excess liquid to another chamber, where the liquid level is controlled. This liquid is then sent as waste alkali. What is the relationship between the concentration of this waste alkali that is sent out and the concentration of the weak alkali used in circulation? In other words, it’s the same substance with two outlets – one through overflow – and does this method enable some degree of concentration separation? I’d like to ask everyone.
Separate the butter in the weak base from the waste base based on their different densities, and then discharge them
Reply to 2# whq107: I understand what butter is, but I’m not quite sure whether a low concentration of sodium hydroxide would cause overflow… Since there are also salts such as sodium carbonate present, even if overflow does occur, the effect is likely to be limited. . .
The reason for overflow is to allow the hydrocarbons such as butter and gasoline that are floating on the surface to settle and be separated; theoretically, the concentration of the alkaline solution that overflows is the same as that of the circulating solution
I agree with what was said above – what overflows isn’t just butter; there’s also some alkaline liquid
