The selection of sanitary-grade valves is determined based on several requirements. For medical vaccines or drugs that require high purity of the medium, valves without any dead zones are necessary; in such cases, sanitary-grade diaphragm valves should be chosen, typically with a 316L valve body and a PTFE diaphragm. Otherwise, GMP certification cannot be obtained. But diaphragm valves are relatively expensive to manufacture. Ball valves and butterfly valves have dead zones, and are generally used in applications with lower requirements. Ball valves have the best flow performance, and their pressure resistance is better than that of butterfly valves. However, butterfly valves are cheaper than ball valves and require less torque.
