When the drain pump used in the turbine drain tank is operating normally, the noise level is too high; however, the noise is normal when the outlet is closed. The vibration levels are within the normal range, as is the shaft temperature. The filter is not clogged, and the oil lubrication is functioning properly. What is the reason?
Is the water level in the drain tank too low?
Could you provide more details so that we can conduct a specific analysis? At first glance, it seems there’s a problem with the import – is the water level low?
It is recommended that you set the outlet pressure of the drain pump at a slightly higher level. We have a condensate pump that has the same issue; originally, the pressure was set at around 3 kilograms, which caused significant noise and vibration. Later, by using a control valve to adjust the outlet pressure to around 7 kilograms, everything became normal!
There is no issue with the inlet water level; it is preliminarily determined that the opening degree of the inlet valve is too low, while the opening degree of the outlet valve is too high. The sound is lower after adjustment, but it remains abnormal.
It’s related to the operation, but I doubt it’s resonance. The vibration is approaching the resonance frequency; a pressure testing is recommended.
It is indeed possible that the noise level of the condensate pump increases when the equipment is shut down, due to low pressure behind the pump.
