Data transmission is divided into two main categories: wired and wireless networks. Wired networks include bus networks (RS-485, CAN, Profibus, Ethernet, etc.) and star networks (RS-232), while wireless networks include radio technologies (Zigbee), Bluetooth, infrared, etc. Due to the high reliability requirements, relay protection devices all use wired networks, and dual networks are required in critical applications. As for the principles behind these network communications, it’s impossible to explain them all at once. Check out the textbooks.
Those connected via network cables are directly linked to switches, while those connected in series use 485 for communication
It works on the same principle as network transmission; all data is sent to the switch at the main substation.
