On the motor side of the reciprocating machine’s flywheel, there is a positioning plate. Dear experts, what is its function? Some people say that a positioning plate is needed because it’s a rigid connection, but I still don’t understand. Its structure consists of a flywheel and a positioning disc (which are actually two semi-circles) placed between the motor and the crankshaft coupling, with the positioning disc on the motor side. Why not use two couplings to directly clamp a flywheel, with a pair of positioning discs in between? Thank you.
Personally, I think it was done to make installation easier! In other words, if the distance between the equipment and the motor is greater than or less than the thickness of the positioning plate! It can be adjusted using the positioning disc!

Reply 1# wdc10: The answer given on the second floor is basically correct, but the thickness of the positioning plate is not determined by the distance between the motor and the equipment; rather, it is determined based on the requirements of the motor’s magnetic center line. In other words, the main function of the positioning plate is to locate the motor’s magnetic center line!!!

For example, if I reduce the distance between the motor’s corner bolts and those of the main frame by as much as the thickness of the positioning plate, then wouldn’t I no longer need the positioning plate? Won’t this also ensure that the motor operates on the magnetic center line? Thank you first.
In short, it’s due to errors in processing and installation precision, which is why it’s necessary

When connected directly, the motor must be used to service the compressor spindle, and alignment must be done again each time.
