How to prevent corrosion in water hoppers made of carbon steel pipes

In the workshop, a batch of water troughs was made from carbon steel pipes. The original batch had suffered severe corrosion and had broken down; for the new batch, I want to apply anti-corrosion treatment first, but I’m not sure how to do it properly. Should I use ordinary anti-corrosion paint or asphalt paint? Is there a better method? I would appreciate advice from those with experience in this area.
The water tank must first be rust-removed, then coated with 2 layers of epoxy zinc-rich primer; applying asphalt paint afterward might yield better results. It’s essential to remove all rust from the water tank, and applying the primer is also very important – if the first two layers aren’t applied properly, no topcoat will work.
Water is not highly corrosive, and applying anti-corrosion paint should solve the problem.
