Discuss whether the manholes of ammonia refrigeration equipment are insulated. What are the hazards if it’s kept cold?
Theoretically, to prevent heat loss, insulation should be used! But one drawback is that once a leak occurs, it’s not easy to detect it if the amount of leakage is small!

Insulation is necessary, after all, the area of the manhole is quite large, so the amount of heat lost in this area is significant; The downside is that disassembly and assembly during maintenance are rather troublesome, and the insulation layer may become unusable after being removed just once ; The ammonia leak mentioned on the second floor should still be detectable; since the pressure on the ammonia side is high, the leaked ammonia gas can be easily detected.
Cooling is necessary; otherwise, first, cooling capacity is wasted, and second, the manhole covers and bolts will freeze, leading to corrosion and making it impossible to remove the bolts during maintenance. Cooling is harmless.
Insulation is still necessary; otherwise, it would be a waste of the cooling capacity. The downside is that less cooling capacity is lost, so more insulation material is needed. As for leaks, they will definitely be detected; it’s just that the insulation has to be removed for maintenance
The manholes of the ammonia refrigeration equipment in our factory are insulated, and no harm has occurred yet.
