It is a normal phenomenon that during this accumulation phase, the air intake volume to the tower is relatively low, while the expansion volume is relatively high. What goes into the upper tower is entirely provided by the lower tower, and moreover, the cooling in the upper tower may not be very thorough.
This is a normal phenomenon during the liquid accumulation phase; there is no issue with the resistance in the upper tower. The formation of a liquid layer indicates that the throttling valves for liquid air and liquid nitrogen are set at high values, which is beneficial for liquid accumulation. The resistance is low when going down the tower, right? I think it’s because the liquid-air level in the lower part of the tower has not yet been established; the level is too low. As the level reaches the set height, the resistance will return to normal. If the liquid level is too high, the resistance will exceed the range. The book says that the liquid-air level has no impact on other factors, but practical experience shows that it does have an effect. This liquid level is meaningless during the liquid accumulation phase; it is best to pump everything into the upper tower.
