When designing a screw conveyor, I calculated that the power required was very low using the formulas in the manual. The expert said that this wasn’t acceptable. I performed the calculations several times, but the results remained the same. I would like to ask fellow engineers: why is the power calculated using the formulas in the manual so low? Is it necessary to make adjustments? What are the formulas for such adjustments, or what are the parameters that need to be modified?

The manual provides mainly theoretical information, while the power consumption of screw conveyors is affected by factors such as equipment deformation, as well as the quantity and properties of the material. In practice, the actual power consumption is much higher than what is calculated; otherwise, the motor will not have sufficient power and will often trip during operation.
I need to adjust my coefficient from 2.5; the material is sticky, and a 15-degree inclination works very well. My situation may differ from yours, so it’s necessary to act according to the actual conditions.

The material is the most important factor——the viscosity of the material, its density, the outer diameter of the screw, the pitch size, and so on.
