Low-grade concentrates are generally processed after the precious metals have been concentrated first. The method of concentration depends on the characteristics of the raw material: if the particles are large and dense, gravity separation methods such as shaking tables can be used for concentration, while if the particles are fine and lightweight, flotation is employed. After that, a comprehensive analysis of the original mineral phases is carried out, after which the extraction method is determined. The cyanidation method is the most commonly used and simplest approach, although it may require proper pre-treatment. Furthermore, if there is sufficient space and the raw materials have low impurities, leaching can be used, although it takes a long time.
