The order of filling the adsorbent in the PSA adsorption tower is silica gel at the bottom layer, followed by alumina, activated carbon, and molecular sieve. I don’t understand the loading sequence, and also, what is the function of each one?
The filling order is as you described: from bottom to top, it is silica, followed by alumina, activated carbon, and molecular sieve. Their adsorption capabilities increase in sequence. Silica is used to purify heavy hydrocarbons and acidic gases; alumina is used to remove water vapor and aromatics from the feed; activated carbon is used to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide, methane, and some carbon monoxide from the feed; molecular sieve is used to eliminate any remaining carbon monoxide
What type of molecular sieve is used to remove carbon monoxide? What are the requirements for molecular sieves?
