The hydrogenation reactor has only one catalyst discharge port at the bottom, but generally the catalyst is filled in three sections; so how is the catalyst from the upper two sections removed? There’s no need to worry about this; there are discharge pipes connecting between the different bed layers. These pipes contain ceramic balls, and when the catalyst in the lower bed layer is discharged outward, the catalyst from the upper layer flows into the lower bed layer through these discharge pipes. In the end, all the catalyst from each layer can be removed through the reactor’s discharge outlet

Previously, discharge pipes were designed between the bed layers, but this design is hardly used anymore; side discharge ports are employed instead. The discharge pipes between the bed layers still pose a risk of poor sealing and leakage. If there is only a discharge port at the bottom, it can only be unloaded by digging layer by layer from the top manually.
