Can hydrogen be stored in aluminum tanks?

This post was last edited by ZEY1981 on 2011-6-2 at 17:22. Currently, the hydrogen pressure is below 1 MPa and the temperature is below 100 degrees. It goes through numerous filtration stages before reaching the gas storage tank, which has a capacity of 200–400 L and is made of 316L material. For cost and weight reduction reasons, I’m considering switching to an aluminum air tank. I’m not sure if that’s possible, and whether the inner wall needs to be coated. I have seen carbon steel being used in the chlor-alkali industry.
For 1MP, it is still recommended to use stainless steel! 304 will work just fine~~ it’s cheaper than 316!
