Our plant uses air stripping to remove carbon from NHD solutions; quartz sand and activated carbon are employed for this purpose, but the results are not satisfactory. The ceramic membranes get clogged very quickly, requiring frequent backwashing. Is there any better method?
Installing a filter on the solution pipeline and flushing it regularly might yield better results.

“The ceramic membrane gets clogged too quickly, resulting in frequent backflushing. ”This issue needs to be viewed from two perspectives: if backwashing is ineffective, it indicates that the filter selected is not suitable for filtering this solution ; If the filtering capacity can be largely restored after backwashing, but the interval between such operations is too short, it indicates that the designed area of your filter is too small. Because if impurities are not retained and pass through, there is no need for backwashing at all. Everyone understands this; in other words, filtering doesn’t work. If the backwashing occurs frequently, it means that the size of your filter has been chosen too small. For ceramic filters, when designing and selecting them, the processing capacity and the interval between backwash cycles are two factors that need to be taken into account, yet many manufacturers are not aware of this. I often encounter this situation as well; the manufacturers usually say, \"The filter designed for us by so-and-so company is only 2 meters long, while the one you’ve designed is much longer – it’s 2.8 meters long!\" ”Sadly, many manufacturers choose the 2-meter version to save money, and no matter how I explain it, they won’t understand.
