Hello everyone, how can we achieve a purity of 99.99%–99.999% for Product A through distillation? Note: Product A of the crude material has a purity of 98%; it also contains 0.01% of low-boiling-point impurities (with a boiling point of 59°C). The remainder are high-boiling-point impurities (with boiling points of 180°C and 300°C), along with some solid impurities that are dissolved in the liquid mixture. I need advice on whether to choose a floating valve tower or a packed tower, and how many trays are required
Reply 1# zirconium: Based on the boiling point you mentioned, it is relatively easy to separate material A. The purity of material A during distillation still depends on the operating conditions; a packed tower should suffice, with around 5 tower sections ! The material must be determined based on the properties of your material! ! !

It seems to be 1.5 meters! ! A stuffing box length of around 7M should be sufficient!

Based on the data you provided, it’s similar to what we use here; we employ two floating-valve column distillation units without packing, first removing high-boiling-point substances and then those with lower boiling points. There are 6 stages of trays, and it’s sufficient to control the temperature of the reactor and the top of the column properly

99.999% also depends on the standards for various impurities in the industry

Our required levels are: 0.01 (actual 0.007), 0.002 (0.0016), 0.0007 (0.00058)
