In the oil circuit system of an air compressor unit, there is an accumulator – what is its purpose? What is the function of the high-level oil tank? And when is the emergency oil pump used? I would appreciate your advice, thank you!

High-level fuel tank: Automatically refills the engine with fuel using pressure differences; I’ve never seen that either. A reservoir is a pressurized elastic bladder for storing oil; it works by storing hydraulic energy in a pressure-resistant container and releasing that energy when needed. The high-position fuel tank ensures a continuous supply of fuel and storage of fuel during the operation of the equipment. In the event of an emergency shutdown or power loss, the pressure difference is used to supply oil to the equipment for a period of time. If you have a unit driven by a steam turbine, when the unit shuts down, the high-level oil tank can only supply the amount of oil required for coasting. I’ve never seen an air compressor oil system that includes an accumulator, but accumulators, high-level oil tanks, and emergency pumps (powered by backup power sources, EPS, etc.) are all designed to provide a certain amount of lubricating oil for a certain period of time in the event of a failure.

The accumulator is installed in the control oil system to prevent a drop in control oil pressure. The emergency oil pump is activated when the main and auxiliary oil pumps lose power; it is not connected to the same power supply as the main and auxiliary pumps. The high-level oil tank ensures a short-term supply of lubricating oil for the compressor when the oil pressure is low and the auxiliary pump has not started.

Since it operates on direct current, it can only function for about half an hour. The high-level oil tank provides lubricating oil for a certain period of time, roughly 5 minutes, when the engine stops due to a power loss and the emergency oil pump has not yet started, thereby preventing dry friction between the bearings and the shaft. Many large engines are equipped with all three of these safety measures, while others have only an accumulator and a high-level oil tank, without an emergency oil pump – it depends on how the manufacturer has designed them
