“The Dragon Boat Festival is recognized by South Korea as their traditional festival and has been declared a World Cultural Heritage site. How should we approach this, and what can we do?
Isn’t there already a lot that’s been taken by foreigners? If you don’t have it, you don’t appreciate it; once you have it, you’re reluctant to part with it!
In South Korea, the legends and rituals surrounding the Dragon Boat Festival are sufficient to support its application for UNESCO recognition, while in China, apart from zongzi, there doesn’t seem to be much else associated with the Dragon Boat Festival these days. Actually, saying it was taken away isn’t entirely accurate; the Korean Peninsula used to be a vassal state of ** and celebrated Chinese festivals as well. Now it is considered a separate entity. If we talk about it being taken away, that happened thousands of years ago.
It is recommended to apply for South Korea’s National Day to be recognized as China’s intangible cultural heritage and to register a trademark for it.
