Today is World Environment Day. Has the place where you live improved or worsened compared to a few years ago?
To be honest, the place where I live has improved compared to a few years ago
As people’s material standards improve, their awareness of environmental protection continues to grow; keep up the good work!
The environment has worsened compared to before; the small river by my hometown village no longer has many fish or shrimp, and its water is muddy all day long. I still remember from my childhood how the area was shaded by green trees, with fish and shrimp everywhere in the river, allowing us to return home with full catches every day. Perhaps what is improving is the environment around us; over 60 percent of the rivers in the country are still polluted. Environmental hygiene may be better than before, but chimneys are still emitting smoke and pipes are still discharging waste. From the perspective of human development strategies, one day we will have to pay the price for today’s short-sightedness. Humans can overcome nature, but there are certain natural laws that cannot be changed; trying to do so only results in us paying a hundredfold price for it, just as is the case with the Three Gorges today.
