Dear sea friends, I’ve recently encountered a question: steam purging is used in the pressure measurement pipelines at certain measurement points where the medium is not pure. What is the purpose of steam purging? Won’t the pressure of the steam affect the pressure measurement?
Perhaps 1. The steam pipeline should be closed during normal production; gas replacement is only necessary when the pipeline is under maintenance. Perhaps 2. The pressure measurement point gets clogged frequently, and it needs to be cleared with steam. Perhaps 3: To prevent gas from escaping from the pipeline, it is sealed using steam.
Reply to 2# 3968668: The steam used for purging in our plant is kept on during normal operation, probably to prevent blockages. But could purging have an impact on the pressure at the pressure measurement points? If steam can be blown in, it means that the steam pressure is higher than the pressure inside the pipe. So, is the pressure measured the actual pressure inside the pipe?
The impact is minimal; once the steam enters the system, its pressure will immediately equal the system pressure, as the pipes used for purging are much smaller than the main pipes

It’s because the medium is impure; steam is used for purging, and the pressure of the steam does not affect pressure measurements
