Since the fluid in the tube side of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger is highly hazardous, a leak test is required. Is a leak test also necessary for the fluid in the shell side, even though it is not highly hazardous? If only the tube side is subjected to a leakage test, how should the pressure be selected for the shell side pressure test?
The shell side and the tube side can be designed separately, as long as the requirements for the shell side are met. It is originally required that the test pressure on the shell side be higher than that on the tube side, but since a leakage test has been conducted, this requirement is no longer necessary
The test pressure is determined based on the design requirements of the equipment; if there are highly hazardous media on one side, it is recommended to conduct leak tests for both the tube side and the shell side
