The effectiveness of distillation column operation depends crucially on how well the various products are separated from one another; it is ideal for there to be minimal overlap in the boiling ranges of adjacent products, and even no overlapping at all. As for the reflux volume, it should be as large as possible when the temperature is high, as a higher reflux temperature facilitates heat utilization. Moreover, the closer the reflux temperature is to the liquid phase temperature at the reflux plate, the less impact it has on the distillation process at that plate, which in turn improves the efficiency of the distillation column

Personal opinion: The basic principle of adjustment is to maintain the optimal balance of the three aspects of the entire tower. Products from atmospheric distillation columns guarantee the best degree of dehydration, whereas those from vacuum distillation columns all have overlapping properties.
