A preliminary analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of state-owned and foreign design firms in chemical engineering design

I was assigned to a position for life; I worked at a design institute affiliated with a state-owned enterprise until retirement. (In between, I worked for an overseas engineering company for over 3 years.) After retiring, I was rehired to work at a state-owned enterprise’s engineering department. Based on these experiences, I offer a preliminary analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of working at different types of design firms for fellow designers to discuss. Design units affiliated with state-owned enterprises: Advantages: The work is relatively stable, and the project scales are large (as they are all classified as Class A projects). The procedures for dividing tasks in design are quite well-established. Some organizations establish mentor-mentee relationships for newcomers to help them get started easily, and they also pay attention to providing professional training. Among those that are gradually moving towards a market-oriented approach, there are some outstanding entities such as Chengdu Chemical Industry Eighth Institute, Shanxi Chemical Industry Second Institute, and Zhejiang Tiancheng Engineering Company, all of which enjoy good revenue levels. Disadvantage: There will be many, lots of activities. In domestic and foreign enterprise design firms: Advantages: Higher immediate income and fewer miscellaneous tasks. Disadvantages: The scale is generally small, and the range of specialties available is limited; one needs to be versatile (especially in chemical engineering processes and systems). Due to entering the field later, the level of design expertise is low (few have Class A qualifications), so the projects involved are usually of modest size. \"The apprentice may starve while the master thrives\" – don’t expect anyone to teach you; you have to rely on yourself, and it’s best to have the ability to work independently, just like tennis player Li Na. The job may be unstable. Personally, I believe that as large domestic engineering companies grow, the role of foreign design firms may become increasingly limited. Personal opinions for discussion.
As long as the normal market competition mechanisms are followed and there is no interference, the space available for foreign design firms should not keep shrinking, right?
