During an inspection by the higher-level management of the unit, it was suggested that sunshades should be installed over the fixed hydrogen sulfide (flammable) gas detection sensors located in areas exposed to direct sunlight; however, no such requirement is mentioned in the instructions, nor was it found in the design specifications. Dear experts, does anyone know which standard requires this? If there are no relevant regulations, how should I respond to my supervisor?
The management is just talking; you can ignore it. Hydrogen sulfide should be measured as a toxic gas, rather than as a flammable substance. (Both flammable and toxic; test for toxicity)

At present, there are no specific regulations regarding flammable and toxic substances, so it’s hard to say for sure whether they fall under this category or not; possibly relevant regulations will be issued after this year! Flammable and toxic substances will soon be classified as items requiring strict inspection!
We didn’t add it during on-site installation, and it still works fine. However, for some instruments with LCD displays installed on site, the manufacturer recommends adding it, as it is said to extend their service life; there is no mandatory requirement for this though.
It’s not mandatory, but it’s better to add it as it can extend the service life. If the boss says to do it, then just do it – it’s not my money being spent anyway. I’ll even do more work in front of the boss, hehe
H2S is a toxic gas that cannot be detected by catalytic combustion. Adding a shed is for aesthetic reasons, I guess. The device already has an IP67 rating; installing it just makes it look better, but it doesn’t offer any practical benefit. There are no requirements in the design specifications. Other equipment, such as pump-driven systems and electric heating systems, is only considered in environments with low temperatures, high temperatures, or a lot of dust.
Although combustible gas detectors generally have a protection rating of IP66 or higher, which makes installation in the field feasible, durability is often taken into consideration; especially since liquid crystal displays can be easily damaged if exposed for long periods of time, installation is indeed a good practice. It is recommended that you say to your supervisor something like this: In some cases, combustible/toxic gas detectors must be replaced after several years of use; please check the service life of the detectors in your unit – if it is quite long, then no replacement is necessary. Next time I buy a new watch, I’ll ask the manufacturer to include one as part of it. It saves you money as well as effort.
