A beginner browsing forum posts notices that modern heavy oil catalytic cracking units basically do not recycle refinery slurry. So what about recycling refinery products? There must be some. We are in the domestic refining industry, and our plants are constantly being upgraded to accommodate feedstocks with a higher residual carbon content. But it has always been recycled oil slurry; the proportion of the 70 T/H feed oil slurry that is discharged is only around 2.0-8.0%. According to the management, the profits are higher than before. So, is it better to recycle more, or is it better to recycle almost none at all?
If it can be said that reprocessing the oil slurry has no impact on the operating conditions of the reaction or on the processing volume, then it is still recommended to proceed with reprocessing. Of course, not all types of oil slurry can be reprocessed; those with a low density (less than 1.0 kg/m3) and low carbon residue (below 10) should definitely be reprocessed, otherwise it would be a waste.
Reprocessing the oil, or processing it to a certain extent with a ratio kept between 2% and 5%, is still beneficial. However, if the company has a residue hydrogenation unit, it is recommended to send the reprocessed oil directly to hydrogenation treatment, and the slurry directly to coking as a hot feed. It is still beneficial for the overall performance of the company. It is recommended to analyze the properties of the reprocessed oil.
