I’m working on the course project for Chemical Engineering Principles and am encountering problems with the process calculations; please give me some advice. The feed consists of three components; the top condenser is a total condenser. The temperature of the condensate is 44 degrees Celsius, the temperature at the top of the tower is 48 degrees Celsius, and the pressure at the top of the tower is 1.36 atm. The Smith method is used to determine the diameter of the distillation section. When calculating the surface tension ai, should one refer to the surface tension of each substance at the temperature at the top of the tower, or at the temperature of the liquid phase leaving the first tray? The two temperatures are likely similar, but which temperature should be used for accurate calculations? In the expression a=∑ai*, should the symbol * represent the molar fraction of the reflux liquid or the molar fraction of the liquid phase leaving the first tray?
This LZ needs to be determined according to the requirements; it generally refers to the surface tension at room temperature. . .
Use the temperature of the reflux liquid. The components are also the molar components of the reflux liquid. The full condenser is equivalent to a plate. The first plate at the top of the tower is equivalent to the second plate of the entire tower. Hehe, I think that’s the case. Now it’s all calculated using software; I don’t remember it very clearly myself, and there are some things I’m not sure about.
