Does anyone know the uses of 1,2-propanediol in alkyd resins and antifreeze? ?
Antifreeze is the main component of antifreezing fluid, and effective antifreezes are various organic alcohols. Such as 1,2-propanediol, etc. In alkyd resins, 1,2-propanediol causes the hydrogen atoms of the hydroxyl groups in the alcohol to react with the hydroxyl groups of the carboxyl groups in the acid, resulting in the formation of water and an ester; this reaction usually occurs when the alcohol and acid are mixed together and heated.
