HAZOP is an analysis method; currently, there are no effective automated software tools that are widely used both domestically and internationally, and the role of experts remains irreplaceable. Conducting a HAZOP analysis requires a great deal of experiential knowledge and non-quantitative insights that are difficult to model or formulate, as well as a divergent way of thinking through brainstorm-style discussions. At the current level of machine intelligence, HAZOP analysis cannot yet be carried out automatically by software. A HAZOP engineer I know said that if HAZOP could be automated, then chemical engineering design could also be fully automated, eliminating the need for human intervention. With that said, one should know how much further automation of HAZOP has to go. Therefore, the main function of existing HAZOP software is to record and organize data, providing some convenience for experts’ work; the core of HAZOP is the human. So, to learn HAZOP or to conduct a HAZOP analysis, no software is necessary; in fact, no software can provide any substantial assistance. At least as far as I know, many experts use only Excel sheets for performing HAZOP analyses. The trial version software mentioned upstairs is, I guess, a software system developed by ThoughtCreate and based on the SDG model; I am cautious about this software.

We can’t dismiss all such tools outright either; good HAZOP software does have advantages in terms of reducing workload, improving efficiency, and managing knowledge and data. Large and medium-sized enterprises still need it, as using only Excel is indeed not very convenient. But if you want to learn *learning*, it’s recommended not to worry about software for now; figure out the methods first.

Reply: 5# bslayer is right; one must not rely solely on a certain software. It’s also important to understand the basic principles and procedures of HAZOP. Those who only use Excel sheets can be considered experts – they don’t need software to assist with analysis; a spreadsheet is sufficient for organizing their thoughts. Human factors remain crucial!
