Dear teachers: After long-term operation, the methanol double-column distillation unit requires shutdown for internal component maintenance. However, there are many impurities inside the columns, and performing welding tasks there poses a risk of safety accidents. Would it be acceptable to first use steam for hot washing, then alkali boiling, and finally wash with a surfactant solution and deionized water? Is there a better way? Are there professional cleaning companies?
That will do, but remember to open the manhole as soon as possible and get started working right away. Otherwise, the tower will corrode.
Boil it in water; once the test results are satisfactory, open the manhole for natural ventilation. Someone should be assigned to supervise the process while using the equipment, and proper protective gear must be worn.
Washing is generally sufficient; it’s enough that the water content, as determined by analysis, is within acceptable limits.
