How to repair a leak in the steam pipeline inside an activated carbon adsorption column?
This seems to be a problem with the device itself; please have the equipment manufacturer handle it. Our company can only do some minor repairs
Reply to 2# wuzibo1984: The details of our company’s activated carbon adsorption columns are as follows: 1. There is only one manhole at the top; the rest are pipe connections. Inside, there are four layers of 300mm thick ceiling panels used to secure the pipes; maintenance personnel cannot enter inside the columns and must cut through the ceiling panels in order to get in. 2. The other two columns are operating normally; the space around this column is too limited to remove it from its current location. 3. The internal activated carbon contains a large amount of hydrogen and materials; how to remove them?

Our company’s adsorption columns also have only one entry point; no matter how many times you try to replace the contents, it’s impossible for anyone to get in. Additionally, there are issues related to height and toxicity. In short, if something fails inside such a column, it can only be discarded. If you want to handle it properly, the cost will likely be equivalent to the price of the column itself after just a few attempts

Leaks started occurring after just two years of use; the one-year warranty period has already passed, and the manufacturer no longer offers any support. Nothing is ever fault-free, and there are no problems that cannot be solved; it’s about formulating solutions based on different situations, with safety coming first.
The adsorption column in my section is also leaking. However, heat transfer oil flows through the pipes in our system; we simply treat the heat transfer oil in those pipes, seal the inlet and outlet ports with blind flanges, and purge them with nitrogen. After a certain period of time, steam can be used for heating, with purging continuing simultaneously to ensure thorough cleaning
The adsorption columns – to be honest, their design has serious issues. I’ve worked with more than one manufacturer, and many of them have the same problem: the columns leak, meaning they become unusable. There are also manufacturers who try to solve this by producing 3 columns at once, with 2 as spares to be replaced in case one breaks. But I don’t think that’s a good solution. It would be better to design a new structure that makes maintenance and repairs easier, while still ensuring the quality of the original manufacturing process!
