Metal wound gaskets are expensive for steam systems; what other types of gaskets can be used?:)
Generally, based on design principles and my construction experience, rubber gaskets and asbestos gaskets are used for steam pipes. But it depends on the operating pressure of the steam in this system. The first two types I mentioned are used for medium and low pressure pipelines.
In addition to metal wound gaskets, other types of gaskets that can be used in steam systems include: asbestos gaskets, copper gaskets, toothed gaskets, and soft steel gaskets

Reply to 5# liudongday: The XB in XB350 refers to asbestos rubber sheet, while 350 indicates that the maximum operating temperature for this gasket material is 350 degrees. That is, XB350 is not a gauge.
Reply to 6# gjn1970: I forgot to add a comma after XB350; haha, what I mean is that XB350 is used in most cases, but the gauge uses purple copper
For steam pipes with different parameters, different gaskets can be selected. Metal wound gaskets are the most widely used. Asbestos gaskets are generally not recommended for use; even when their specifications are low, they are not employed on steam pipes.

It seems that most use braided padding. Gaskets with reinforcing rings are available for high-pressure applications. The root valve of the instrument uses PTFE for low temperatures and red copper for high temperatures.
It depends on the working pressure and temperature. When installing the boiler on-site, the boiler manufacturer provides pre-assembled metal wound gaskets. Secured with metal wound gaskets; no need for reverse work (as long as the convex and concave surfaces of the flanges are aligned properly)
