Magnetic separation technology can be used to recover the heavy metals contained therein, and it is possible to increase the activity of the catalyst by more than 5 units; however, this has little practical significance. After separation, the specific surface area, pore volume, and bulk density of the catalyst change, and introducing it into the system may affect its operation. If it is to be used, it should be added in small amounts, with close attention paid to any changes in operation. Now, the treatment of catalysts is a major problem.
Our company has used catalysts that have undergone magnetic separation; they are generally mixed with fresh catalysts in a certain proportion. The results are acceptable, but the amount of catalyst required is quite large and its price is not cheap. It would be great if it were possible to recycle them
Waste catalysts from catalytic cracking contain heavy metals such as Ni and V; the N+V content is around 8,000–12,000 ppm.
