A certain amount of fresh diesel is poured into a measuring cylinder with a mouth; then, the diesel stabilizer is added in the prescribed ratio (as indicated by the manufacturer of the reagent), and the mixture is stirred thoroughly. A blank diesel sample is also prepared. The measuring cylinder (with its lid removed) is placed in a well-ventilated area, and the time as well as the color intensity of the diesel are recorded. The time at which the color intensity of the diesel drops below level 4 after the addition of the stabilizer is noted. Generally, a diesel stabilizer that keeps the color intensity below level 4 within two weeks is considered to be effective. Now, refineries are gradually installing hydrogenation refining units, and there will soon be no market left for diesel stabilizers.
