When measuring loop current, is it better to disconnect the power supply at the positive or negative terminal?

RT, in work we often need to measure the output current of instruments; at such times we have to connect the multimeter in series with the circuit. Should we disconnect the positive terminal or the negative terminal first?
There shouldn’t be any difference; as long as the current can be measured, that’s fine.
It seems there’s no difference, but sometimes both the positive and negative values need to be measured.
