Overpressure and aging are the main causes of rupture; another factor is the choice of material. The diaphragms are usually made of nitrile rubber, but this material can be dissolved by certain media such as benzene and tetrachloroethylene. Therefore, diaphragms should not be used for handling such media; instead, diaphragms made of materials like tetrafluoroethylene, or other materials that are not affected by these media, can be used.
