For a four-wire mass flow meter, the flow signal from the field is fed into a penless recorder; both wires of the signal line are disconnected, a 250-ohm resistor is connected to the signal terminals, and then HART communication is disabled for these two terminals. Device not found. The transmitter of this mass flow meter is model 1700. When this mass flow meter was first purchased, we were able to use HART communication. To determine whether there was a wiring error, I tried using the same wiring method with a new mass flow meter of the same model, and found that communication was possible. I also tried other HART protocol instruments to see if they could communicate as well. It’s this one that doesn’t work; I’m quite confused. Please, experts, help me figure it out

It’s possible that the HART communication port has been damaged due to lightning strikes; it is recommended that the 1700 transmitter use 485 for communication. A laptop with a serial port, along with the PROLINKII software, can be used to handle and diagnose issues conveniently, especially for viewing historical fault records and graphs.
I don’t think what was said upstairs is correct. If it is the output terminal that has been damaged by lightning, then there should also be problems with the analog signal. It’s just a HART communication issue at the moment; it’s possible that there’s a problem with the HART communication module inside the instrument. Try restoring the device to its factory settings; it might help.

My HART device did cause them to have issues; they changed the entry conditions to input tag numbers, which meant that no instruments could be connected at first. After I changed it to an address, the other instruments worked fine, but this one still didn’t function.

It’s a shame if the micro motion mass flow meter uses analog signals for measurement; it would be better to use pulse signals. Additionally, laptops are used nowadays for handling such tasks as they are simple and straightforward. It is recommended that the manufacturer develop software for this purpose and provide some basic training.
