Personally, I believe ConocoPhillips must bear direct responsibility for the accident. But as the client (employer), CNOOC is inevitably involved. Just as when a driver employed by a company causes an accident while driving, the employing company, as the employer, must also bear responsibility. Therefore, CNOOC’s response and statements regarding this incident truly struggle to gain societal acceptance.
Anyway, I personally think this matter shouldn’t be ignored or covered up; the responsibilities that need to be taken on must be fulfilled.
Agree with the original poster. ConocoPhillips did it to protect its own shares, while CNOOC revealed the information only when it could no longer hide it; in fact, it is the **people** who truly suffer losses. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is a good example, but China would not handle it in the same way
This responsibility is too heavy. For now, deal with things after the fact; usually, it’s handled quietly when the buzz subsides.
Generally, to eliminate significant impacts, proactive measures are taken, which is necessary to achieve good results. Late or incomplete reporting can damage the company’s reputation. Of course, this is not the case for companies that don’t pay much attention to their image.
