Anode, cathode, electrolyte – with these three elements present, corrosion occurs naturally! But in the few companies I’ve been to, as far as I remember, no preservatives are added even to water at -35 degrees. The most common issue is external corrosion of the pipes, rather than internal corrosion. Even if insulation material is used to cover the pipes, corrosion and perforations can still occur over time, leading to leaks, as water droplets form on the outside of the pipes due to temperature differences.
