The space velocity is determined by the performance of your catalyst; if your conversion rate and selectivity are high, then a higher space velocity is preferable, as it allows for a larger processing capacity. Based on my previous experience, the experimental space velocity for MTP can be around 1–10, with methanol and water as the feedstocks, and it is calculated based on the mass space velocity of methanol. In industry, the mass space velocity of methanol is around 0.7–1
LURGI MTP: methanol feed at 208 t/h; two reactors in operation with one as standby, each reactor equipped with 150 t of catalyst. Air velocity = 208 t/h / (150 t + 150 t) = 0.7 h^-1
